The easiest ways to improve your golf game are those that give you confidence on the golf course. Take practice, for example. Instead of heading for the range to blast away with your driver, as most golfers are wont to do, walk over to the putting green, pull the iron flag out of one of the holes and start hitting short putts. Don’t practice anything else until you have made 18 out of 20 putts inside of 20 feet (the average touring pro makes 85-90 percent of putts between three and five feet in competition). Why do this?
It is a cascading effect that ripples through the bag. When you are confident you are going to make short putts it takes the pressure off long putting and chipping. And if you aren’t worried about having to hit approach shots perfectly because you know you can get the ball up and in, it makes hitting irons easier and if you aren’t worried about having to hit irons close to make par it makes it easy to release freely on drivers. The best professionals miss five or six greens every round and still shoot in the 60s because their short games are so sharp.
Eliminating doubt on the golf course is the key to improving quickly. One of the best ways to build confidence is to trust your equipment. And to have complete faith in your clubs you need to have them custom-fitted to your unique swing. The Fujikura Mobile Fitting App, available for Apple and Android devices, takes you through the principles of club fitting and how it impacts the golf swing. With a few simple questions you will be guided to a suggested shaft crafted for your swing.
